In the 80’s, Steven did four years of acting workshops for film and television at L.J. Promotions in Melbourne. He trained with John Gauci, the award winning director, whose long list of credits include executive producer at ABC Melbourne. During this time, Steven also studied theatre and voice production with Stephen Costain, head of voice production at the Victorian College of the Arts. At the Prahran College of Tafe, he did a series of workshops on auditioning with Graeme Moore who was head of casting for Crawford Productions Australia.
Steven was screen tested several times by some of Australia’s major production companies, then, after playing some minor TV roles, he landed the main supporting role of the young constable in the Film Victoria Productions movie titled Mr. B Says No. The film picked up eight Australian Film Institute awards, and numerous overseas awards including the Golden Camera Award at the Chicago Industrial Film festival USA and premiered at the Valhalla Cinema in Melbourne. It was also aired by ABC for many years during the Australian Film Festival.
Steven also acted in other television roles, a radio play, training videos, a theatre restaurant show, and in the Royal Ballet of London production of Swan Lake at the Victorian State Theatre.
